So far we have 3 people with 7 submissions for our We Ain't Square challenge. Let's get that number up! You have until Monday to submit icons.

Hey [community profile] icon_style,

since [personal profile] kerravonsen is pretty busy, I am going to be 'taking over' this community - however, I can't do it alone and thus I am looking for someone to share the duties!

It wouldn't be too much work - I'll run September's challenge and the next co-mod could then run October's and so on. Running the challenges mostly involves writing the intro post for each challenge - [personal profile] kerravonsen has thought of quite a few things we could have as challenges, so you wouldn't need to be creative in that direction (though it is certainly not discouraged!) -, after that post, a few reminders need to be put up and of course the voting and the winner posts at the end of each challenge need to be posted.

You really don't need any experience with comm moderation for this, just a bit of time and teh ability to post things on time :)

If you are interested, just send me a PM. Thanks everyone :)

My apologies to y'all, I forgot that this month's challenge was supposed to be finished today, and I'm the mod! Since I should have done a reminder post, not to mention that I'm going to be too busy to do stuff (and also, we've only had one entrant!), I am extending this challenge another week. I will do the voting post next Wednesday, the 24th of March (my time, so for some of you that means the 23rd). So get your creative juices flowing this weekend, and make icons!

I have added a syndication feed of the Dreamwidth version of icon_style to [livejournal.com profile] icon_style_feed; please add this to your friends list if you want to keep up with what is going on.

It is the end of January, and I'm not sure what to do next month, because I am going to be very busy (three different ficathons/challenges all at once) and I won't have time to make icons myself.

Due to the fact that some of the people who wanted to participate this time had conflicting deadlines, I have extended this month's challenge a few days: it is now due on the 31st of May (Australian time - for the Americans that means it is due on the 30th of May).

Please don't disappoint me.

I have made new community on Dreamwidth (http://icon-style.dreamwidth.org/) in the hope that we can get some fresh blood, and a co-mod. If you don't already have a Dreamwidth ID, sign up with an OpenID (and confirm an email address) before the 30th of April, and that will get you an invite code for Dreamwidth. Then you can join the comm there. If you hate me for this... well, the alternative was to go on indefinite hiatus.

Welcome

Hello all. Welcome to the Icon Style community, where "Style, not Substance" is our motto.

A lot of icon-challenge communities are fandom-specific, and while that's good, if one is interested in other subjects as well, those tend to get neglected.
This icon-challenge community is about stretching our creativity by giving challenges based on some style or technique, without saying what the icons have to be about. Icons can be from any fandom, or non-fandom, or whatever. I just ask that they be "work safe" as far as the content goes.

This is not an intense challenge community; I know you have a life and want to do other things as well. So each challenge will be monthly, lasting for a fortnight.

This is born of the LJ community of the same name http://community.livejournal.com/icon_style/; while we have a small and loyal group, it is too small to hit critical mass. I'm hoping that more people will join in here. Also, I'm looking for a co-mod to help with publicity.

Challenge #18 got only one entrant besides me. This is not feasible.

This community has not reached critical mass. It's been the same four or so people participating in challenges, and while you've all been terrific, of course it is understandable that you can't always participate. Unless we can get fresh blood in this community, there's really not much point in continuing. The obvious way of getting fresh blood is to promote the hell out of this community, but I don't have the time to do that. I'm quite happy to keep on running challenges (I certainly haven't run out of ideas) but we NEED a "publicity officer". Please? Someone?

Because it's NaNoWriMo time, and many people will be busy, I thought I'd poll the mood of the group in order to figure out whether we should have a challenge this month or not.

[Poll #1289520]

[personal profile] kerravonsen
Seeing as we only got two entrants this time, I'd kind of like to know what I'm doing wrong. Challenges too hard, too easy, too boring? Wrong format? Should there be no breaks in challenge-doing? I expect some people will think that monthly challenges are too infrequent, but I'm a busy person and it's all I can manage. Yeah, I suppose every three weeks would be possible, but it's easier to remember "once a month" rather than "every three weeks".

Also I'd really like you to suggest challenges that you'd like to do. No, I haven't run out of ideas, but if my ideas are stupid ideas, then I'd rather get better ones.

Hi folks! Back again after the [livejournal.com profile] naarmamo hiatus. I'll be posting this month's challenge tomorrow. However, I'd like to ask if there is anyone who would be willing to volunteer as a... Publicity Officer for this comm. Basically someone who promises to pimp this comm, post regularly in places which are appropriate (such as [livejournal.com profile] icontest_promo). I'm totally rotten at this, and while it's nice to have our handful of regulars, it would also be nice to have more people participating, and for that, we need more publicity, I think. So, anyone interested in volunteering?

I've been busy, y'all have been busy, and things look to be getting busier, so I declare December to be a month off. See you all in January, all bright and eager in a New Year, ready to be creative!
kerravonsen: 9th Doctor, silvery-grey: "Oh no!" (oh-no)
[personal profile] kerravonsen
Challenge #5 has less than a week to go, and there's only one entrant! Are you all doing NaNoWriMo? If you are, let me know, and I'll defer this month's challenge to next month, when people aren't killing themselves with NaNo.

Because I'm going to be going overseas near the end of next month, and because a ficathon I am running is also due at the end of next month, I've decided to reduce my load a bit by declaring next month to be a month off for [livejournal.com profile] icon_style. Don't worry, we will be back stylishly iconing in November.

In the meantime, vote in this month's challenge if you haven't.

And pimp this comm to get more people joining in the fun. 8-)

Okay, so we did multi-choice, and that seemed to work. However, I'm wondering if we might adjust the "winners" selection a bit more, to prevent one person (like me) from hogging all the glory. I suggest that, in each section, if someone's icon has already gotten a place, then their other icons get skipped (for that section for that challenge). For example, if Icon A by Person X gets first place in a section, and Icon B by Person X gets second place in a section, and Icon C by Person Y gets third place, then Icon B isn't counted, and Icon C gets second place instead. Does that seem fair? Let me know what you all think.
