I hereby open our first challenge!
This challenge is inspired by the film, "Schindler's List" (hence the title of the challenge). In that film, most of the film was in black-and-white, but there were some scenes with a little girl in a red coat, where everything was in black-and-white, except for the red coat.
Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to make up to four icons which are all black-and-white, with a splash of one other colour.
Note: This challenge is now closed!
Note 2: Entries have now been revealed.
For examples see:
http://www.auschwitz.dk/story/id15.htm

Techniques needed:
- converting colour images to black-and-white
- colour filling
- layer masks
A few useful tutorials (GIMP-related, but should be easily transferable to Photoshop):
- http://www.gimp.org/tutorials/Selective_Color/ (note that this challenge is not for selective colouring, since that gives more than one colour, but this tutorial still is helpful for supporting techniques)
Rules:
1. From one to four icons can be submitted. (Future challenges may allow fewer icons, if there become lots of participants, but we'll start with four for now).
2. You have two weeks to submit the icons; that is, they are due on Sunday 17th of June.
3. Icons will be submitted in comments to this post. All comments will be screened, to preserve anonymity.
4. As soon as I can after the 17th, I will make a voting poll here. People will then have about a week to vote.
There will be two sections in the voting: (a) "Best embodiment of style"; this you vote for whichever icon you think demonstrates the style/technique of the given challenge (b) "I just like it"; where you vote for whichever icon you simply like the best.
5. You are required NOT to post your icons anywhere public until after the voting is over, so as to preserve the anonymity of the entries.
6. When the voting is over, I'll anounce the winner here. Discussion of the challenge will be encouraged, especially discussion and demonstration of techniques used.
In short:
Due 17th June, post entries here, don't show them elsewhere.
