As you may have noticed, it was practically impossible to give second-places this time due to there being so many ties (all with 2 votes each). I'm wondering if, next time, we could go for a sort of compromise voting, not so simple as the very simple voting we had this time, but less complicated than the "preference" system I tried to test earlier.

What I propose is to have a multi-choice vote, where everyone gets three votes, rather than one. That way it should be easier to have clear 1st and 2nd (and maybe even 3rd) places, since there's still likely to be many more entries than people voting for them.

It shouldn't be difficult to do a multi-choice poll, but it would require people to use an honour system, since with multi-choice, there's no limit to the number of choices one can pick, but people would have to restrain themselves to three.

What do y'all think? Would it work?

That sounds sensible to me. And it would be quite easy to skim down the list of votes and spot anyone who picked more than three, because of the way LJ shows multiple results.

I think that's a good idea. And if you didn't want to rely on the honour system, you could just cut and paste the poll as you use it now, to repeat it three times.

Yeah, and you could save space by doing a drop-down menu poll instead of a radio button one.

One thing I would like to see is at least one follow-up post to the poll post saying "We're still voting here" or equivalent. I didn't miss the poll, but many times people miss a post or are out a couple of days and don't get back to older posts.

How do you pick your favourite if you get three votes? Or are you having three polls for first, second, and third preference respectively?

Oh, OK. Picking three favourites might actually be easier for me. Will there still be two polls, one for execution and one for "I just like it"?
