Thank you, everyone!

I've also revealed the entries in the challenge entry post.

Now, discuss! How did you overcome the difficulties of this challenge?

I loved that 'fire' one of [livejournal.com profile] siluria's especially...

I admit, except for the books one of mine, I tried to keep it very simple (being moi, it never occurred to me to use small pictures, so I spent much time trying to find big fat fonts that I liked but which stayed readable:) then - with the blair/guide and Avon one, trying to stop the lines of the letters from going straight up their noses (!) by fiddling with each letters width (the picture of Blair was greyscaled, then overlaid with a simply blue rain pattern to soften it). I'd been wanting to do the DW ones as 'otp' icon for a while, but had thought of it as a normal picture with the text inside, so am rather glad this challenge made me try something different (the picture was a tad - okay a lot - ordinary but by dint of contrast fiddling and overlaying the faintest of photocopy layers, I managed to make the Doctor's features reasonably clear)

The books one was the most complicated, but involved taking one picture, making a very pale screened copy and a separate a burnt bright one; used a text with pattern overlay to put the latter in the text and exactly matching the position on the pale one, then adding a heavy outerglow (which I'm increasingly using instead of stroke) and a light drop shadow to make it stand out a bit more.

Awww, thank you :) I almost didn't enter that one because I thought it was too simple; and especially when I saw what you did with Avon and Blair, I sat there and thought, why the hell hadn't I thought to play around with the text a bit more. I always forget that the character spacing can be changed and instead try to find a font in it's base style to play with. I loved the Avon one especially because it almost looks 3D.

Thank you everyone for the votes - and especially for the mod choice :)

I found the challenge quite tricky actually, and the fact that the icon I played around with the least came out joint first for style is quite a surprise, although it is good to be reminded that simple can sometimes be best. I wanted to be able to get the 3D style that [livejournal.com profile] kerravonsen got with the Hot/Cold icons but that wasn't really working for me at all. I also found that most things I tried came out very similar, or I couldn't get the image I wanted to use to be distinguishable in the text. An interesting challenge though! :)

That was the biggest hurdle for me too, getting it visible - a lot of big fat fonts turned out to be very hard to read. I like the way the rest of you managed to use nice clear fonts while still making it clear what the picture was...

Simple is quite often best :)

I've used that picture of Avon a few times, I just love it.

Aww, thank you! I did it just to make sure I had as much coverage as possible, and to not have the white from the tiger showing through the text :)
