Date: 2008-02-26 08:38 am (UTC)I admit, except for the books one of mine, I tried to keep it very simple (being moi, it never occurred to me to use small pictures, so I spent much time trying to find big fat fonts that I liked but which stayed readable:) then - with the blair/guide and Avon one, trying to stop the lines of the letters from going straight up their noses (!) by fiddling with each letters width (the picture of Blair was greyscaled, then overlaid with a simply blue rain pattern to soften it). I'd been wanting to do the DW ones as 'otp' icon for a while, but had thought of it as a normal picture with the text inside, so am rather glad this challenge made me try something different (the picture was a tad - okay a lot - ordinary but by dint of contrast fiddling and overlaying the faintest of photocopy layers, I managed to make the Doctor's features reasonably clear)
The books one was the most complicated, but involved taking one picture, making a very pale screened copy and a separate a burnt bright one; used a text with pattern overlay to put the latter in the text and exactly matching the position on the pale one, then adding a heavy outerglow (which I'm increasingly using instead of stroke) and a light drop shadow to make it stand out a bit more.

Date: 2008-02-26 07:37 pm (UTC)I found the challenge quite tricky actually, and the fact that the icon I played around with the least came out joint first for style is quite a surprise, although it is good to be reminded that simple can sometimes be best. I wanted to be able to get the 3D style that
