Challenge #8 "Monochrome"
Mar. 10th, 2008 06:48 pmWelcome to challenge #8, "Monochrome"! Something a bit easier this time. For this challenge you must make your icon shades of only one colour (plus black and white, which one could argue aren't colours at all, or are every colour or something).
Since I'm going to be away over Easter, this challenge isn't due until the 28th, but I won't be able to give you a reminder post.
Techniques:
- colours
- layers
Examples:

Useful (GIMP) tutorials:
- basics
- http://www.gimp.org/tutorials/Color2BW/ (converting colour to black-and-white)
Rules:
1. From one to four icons can be submitted.
2. You have more than two weeks to submit the icons; that is, they are due on Friday the 28th of March (that's my time, Australian time, so for some of you that will be the 27th).
3. Icons will be submitted in comments to this post. All comments will be screened, to preserve anonymity.
4. As soon as I can after the 28th, I will make a voting poll here. People will then have about three days to vote, because we don't really seem to need a week.
There will be two sections in the voting: (a) "Best embodiment of style"; this you vote for whichever icon you think demonstrates the style/technique of the given challenge (b) "I just like it"; where you vote for whichever icon you simply like the best.
5. You are required NOT to post your icons anywhere public until after the voting is over, so as to preserve the anonymity of the entries.
6. When the voting is over, I'll announce the winners here. Discussion of the challenge will be encouraged, especially discussion and demonstration of techniques used.
In short:
Due 28th March, post entries here, don't show them elsewhere.
If you know any good tutorials for this challenge, please post a link.
And please pimp this far and wide!
