Thank you, everyone!
I've also revealed the entries in the challenge entry post.
Now, discuss! Tricks, tips, that sort of thing. Though monochrome was pretty straightforward, wasn't it?

Date: 2008-04-01 07:16 am (UTC)- duplicate the original, desaturate it, put it in Multiply mode
- use the colour picker to pick one of the lighter shades of beige from the original image, make a new layer, fill it with that colour, and put it in overlay mode
- the text was done in the usual way, one text layer with "HIDING"
and the other with "in plain sight" in different fonts and sizes
- I made a border around "HIDING":
-- alpha to selection for "HIDING", grow by 1 pixel
-- new layer transparent, bucket fill
-- alpha to selection for "HIDING" again
-- cut out the inside of the outline layer
- "HIDING" was in white, and I reduced the opacity to about 50%; I could do that because I'd cut out the inside of the outline layer. I don't usually cut out the inside of outlines, because they're usually hidden by whatever it is that they're outlining (I move the outline layer underneath). But in order to make the text more transparent, I needed to be able to see the background underneath, hence the cutting.
- I used the colour picker to pick one of the darker colours from the image, and used that as the text colour for "in plain sight", for the outline around "HIDING" and for the icon border.
That's about it.

Date: 2008-04-01 06:03 pm (UTC)With the leaves, I just had a good stock image that I desaturated and sharpened up a bit, I then had 3 or 4 layers filled with different shades of green which I then turned into burn, color and soft light layers. I just fiddled with the opacity with each until it got to where I was happy with the colouring, nothing uber-technical :)
